#rumfamily : Favourite Bartenders-Roberto Berdecia

In Part 5 we travel to Puerto Rico to learn about the awesome Roberto Berdecia. We met Roberto a few years ago at London Rumfest where he shared some great Don Q cocktails.  Since then Puerto Rico has been added to our travel bucket list!

How long have you been bartending?

16 years

What made you decide you wanted to work behind a bar?

I started to work as a barback/busboy/runner to pay for my hobbies and college


Where do you find your inspiration for new cocktails?

Everywhere. Music, food, fruits, colours, shows and flavours

What’s your go to ingredient?




What’s your proudest accomplishment so far?

La Factoría and Jungle Bird, my bars. They represent a lot for me, but obviously my Valentina has the first spot!

Define the perfect cocktail?

Balanced and consistent





What is your go to drink on a night out?

Straight rum

What’s your favourite thing about working behind a bar?

Meeting a lot of people and being able to make friends

What’s your least favourite thing about working behind a bar?

Long shifts

What is your favourite drink to make?

For my self, Tepache Colada (pictured right)

Tepache is a fermented pineapple juice originally from Mexico (recipe here)
1.5 oz. Don Q Gold
2 oz. Tepache
1.5 oz. House coconut cream
Shake and  serve over pebble ice
Garnish with dehydrated pineapple, umbrella and cherry

Jungle Bird, La Factoría, Surf Caffe or Caneca
